Several neighborhoods in the Kansas City area received warnings Thursday morning about possible low water pressure.

The issue? Damaged water lines.

Just ask yourself when was the last time you really needed an umbrella in Kansas City?

The area is in the midst of a drought, one that is wreaking havoc on the KC-area water systems.

The water on the ground was the first sign that there was a problem outside of this blue springs barbershop.

"I was like 'when did it rain?' And it kept flowing and flowing," Faded by Stylz owner Jayson Taynton said.

According to the city of Blue Springs, lack of rain is the problem.

"The ground shifting from dryness is causing a break in these cast iron pipes," Blue Springs communications manager Miranda Austerman said.

No matter where you look or what angle you look from, it's a major problem,

"For perspective last year at this time we had two breaks. In the past two weeks we have had 20," Austerman said.

Enough to keep workers digging around the clock.

"We definitely have a need for maintenance workers in our public works department "

"We need rain. Please send rain," Taynton said.

The city of Blue Springs said that it's rare that a repair requires that water be completely shut off.

Most of the time the line bursts can be fixed without having a major effect on homes and businesses.
